The Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation has been set up to co-ordinate and integrate work by different government departments and strengthen the culture of organ donation.
The committee's two-year term starts today.
Under Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan chairs the committee with members coming from sectors including education, business, patient groups, healthcare and other professions, government departments and the Hospital Authority.
The committee is responsible for formulating strategies and directions, and co-ordinating activities to promote and facilitate organ donation.
It will invite non-governmental organisations, institutions, community members and the media to participate in activities and programmes to enhance people's understanding of and reduce their resistance and hesitation to organ donation.
