13 Saudi MERS cases monitored

September 29, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring 13 Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Saudi Arabia, including one death.

The patients include six men and seven women aged 14 to 72. One died, three are in critical condition, eight are stable and one is asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, 10 previously confirmed patients have died.

To date 1,583 MERS cases have been reported to the World Health Organisation, including at least 566 deaths.

Travel agents organising tours to the Middle East are advised not to arrange camel rides and activities involving the animals which may increase the risk of infection.
