22 Saudi MERS cases monitored

September 09, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring 22 Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Saudi Arabia.

The patients include 13 men and nine women aged 24 to 87. Fifteen of them are associated with an ongoing MERS outbreak in a Riyadh hospital.

To date 1,517 cases have been reported to the World Health Organisation, including at least 539 deaths.

Travel agents organising tours to the Middle East are advised not to arrange camel rides and activities involving the animals which may increase the risk of infection.
