Private lab blood tests mooted

September 04, 2015

The Government has contacted private laboratories which have the capacity to take blood samples, to explore whether they can help with blood tests for those affected by lead-tainted drinking water, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says.

Dr Ko told reporters this afternoon that these laboratories should be backed up by accredited overseas laboratories.

He also expects demand for blood tests will be maintained or continue to rise as the situation develops.

Regarding media reports on the alleged misuse of public funds by Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Dr Ko expressed concern about the claims and noted his bureau is now looking into the issue.

He added that the objective of setting up the dental hospital was to support educational programmes supported by the University Grants Committee and that any use of the hospital's resources to support self-financing programmes must be clearly accounted for.
