Dental support:  Community Care Fund Task Force Chairperson Law Chi-kwong (centre), Deputy Secretary for Food & Health Davey Chung (left) and Hong Kong Dental Association President Dr Sigmund Leung display information leaflets on the expanded programme at a media briefing.

The Community Care Fund will expand the Elderly Dental Assistance Programme on September 1 in phases to include Old Age Living Allowance recipients.

The first phase will cover those aged 80 or above, involving about 130,000 people.

The expanded scheme enables more seniors with financial difficulties and who do not receive Comprehensive Social Security Assistance to benefit from free removable dentures or other dental care.

The programme was introduced in 2012 to provide free removable dentures and other dental services for low-income elderly people who use the Social Welfare Department's home service schemes. So far, 1,400 people have benefitted.

Eligible seniors can bring the necessary documents to apply in person at district service units on September 1.
