Beef sample fails safety check

August 19, 2015

The Centre for Food Safety has found illicit preservative sulphur dioxide in a fresh beef sample.

The sample was taken from a fresh provision shop in Fanling.

The centre has informed the shop operator of the irregularity and will take follow-up tests as well as institute prosecution action.

It reminded traders not to sell fresh or chilled meat containing sulphur dioxide, and encouraged consumers to buy meat from reliable market stalls and fresh provision shops.
