Service Corps volunteers commended

July 30, 2015

Financial Secretary John Tsang has commended Service Corps volunteers for their work in Shaoguan and Meizhou in Guangdong.

Mr Tsang presented them with completion of service certificates today.

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah also praised them, saying he hopes Hong Kong's young people will continue to promote positive energy.

The Home Affairs Bureau launched the Service Corps programme in 2011 to provide financial support for youths to help underprivileged Mainland communities.

About 100 youths have participated in the first five phases of the programme.

The 27 members of the latest phase were sent to eight primary and secondary schools in Shaoguan and Meizhou to provide teaching assistance to preschool, primary and junior secondary students, and to organise extracurricular activities.

The Service Corps is recruiting volunteers for the next phase starting September.
