All ears:  Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung (second left) visits the association's 24-hour Call & Care Centre that provides emergency support and care services for seniors.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung visited the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association headquarters today to learn about its elderly support and care services, and its interactive and educational facilities.

He toured the Jockey Club Life Journey Centre, which offers interactive activities that stimulate the younger generation to reflect on different stages in their life journey, and to learn to treasure those around them and lead a positive life.

He saw the association's Jockey Club Silver Hall, which provides innovative activities for seniors. Mr Cheung chatted with participants of a photography class, and listened to the "A Message for My Beloved" service which encourages the elderly to express themselves through recordings.

He then toured the association's 24-hour Call & Care Centre, which provides free Personal Emergency Link or Mobile Link services to those with financial hardship through a charity fund.

About 1,000 volunteers, most of them newly retired, take the initiative to ring up the users to check on their well-being every day.

Mr Cheung thanked the sssociation for enhancing seniors' quality of life and supporting the Government's policy of promoting "ageing in place", and its effort to develop an elderly-friendly community.
