Sorbet fails safety check

July 23, 2015

A sample of locally made prepackaged sorbet taken from a Tsing Yi supermarket has been found to contain excessive coliform.

The Centre for Food Safety urged the public not to consume the affected batch.

It is Mango Gelato, 450ml, manufactured by Wealthy Making Limited and distributed by da dolce Gelato Italiano, with a best before date of  February 28, 2016.

The sample’s coliform count was 180 per gram. It was taken from Taste at Maritime Square.

The centre has informed the vendor concerned and instructed it to stop selling the product immediately.

It said test results indicated the vendor's hygiene conditions were unsatisfactory, but that did not mean eating the ice cream would lead to food poisoning.
