Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man met Shenzhen Vice Mayor Ai Xuefeng in Shenzhen today to discuss avian influenza prevention and control, and measures for handling cremated human ashes.
Dr Ko learned the Shenzhen government has progressively designated restricted areas for live poultry operation and banned live poultry sales in those areas.
He said Hong Kong has commissioned a consultant to study the future of the live poultry trade and make recommendations.
Dr Ko introduced Hong Kong's district-based columbarium development scheme, in which 24 potential sites have been identified.
He said he hopes their two governments maintain close ties and foster mutual exchange and co-operation.
