Centre for Health Protection Consultant Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan has called on the public to take preventive measures against mosquitoes, after the year's first locally acquired Dengue fever case was confirmed today.
The case involves a 58-year-old man who fell ill on May 25 and sought treatment at the Union Hospital on May 31. His blood tested positive for the Dengue virus and he was discharged after treatment.
He lives in Grandway Garden, Tai Wai, and works at Cheung Hing Mansion at Tai Kok Tsui. He reported that he was often bitten by mosquitos near his residence.
The Government will hold an inter-departmental meeting to co-ordinate anti-mosquito measures and prevent the disease from spreading. The centre will also notify doctors to watch for the disease.
