Dengue vigilance urged

May 20, 2015

The Centre for Health Protection has urged people to take Dengue fever precautions while in Taiwan due an increase in cases on the island.

Taiwan authorities say 190 cases have been recorded so far this year, including 108 local cases. Among them, 101 were recorded in Kaohsiung, while others were noted in Taipei, New Taipei and Taichung.

Six additional local and two imported cases were recorded from May 12 to 18, including a cluster of five patients who visited a market in Nanzih, Kaoshiung.

There have been 33 imported cases of the disease in Hong Kong so far this year, a 43% increase over last year.

The centre reminded people to protect themselves against mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and trousers, and to use insect repellent.
