Beef samples fail safety check

April 28, 2015

The Centre for Food Safety found illicit preservative sulphur dioxide in two fresh beef samples during recent safety checks.

They were taken from two fresh provision shops in Kwun Tong and Fanling.

The samples were found to contain sulphur dioxide at levels of 44 and 15 parts per million.

The centre has informed the vendors of the result and will take follow-up tests to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

It reminded traders not to sell fresh or chilled meat containing sulphur dioxide, and encouraged consumers to buy meat from reliable market stalls and fresh provision shops.
