Flu jabs set for May

April 09, 2015

The additional 100,000 doses of new seasonal flu vaccines the Government has procured will be delivered by the end of April, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said today.

The Department of Health will start the flu vaccination programme in early May for the elderly staying in care homes, he said.

By the second half of May, seniors living in the community can get vaccinated at out-patient clinics run by the department or the Hospital Authority.

The Government hopes to complete the vaccination programme by the end of June, Dr Ko said.

He added that surveillance data shows the peak flu season has passed. But the weather has been unpredictable over the past few days and schools have yet to resume classes, so the department must monitor the situation for at least two more weeks before deciding on whether to continue with the severe flu case reporting system.
