The Hong Kong 'M' Mark Sports Event Awards presentation ceremony was held today to recognise the achievements of national sports associations and event sponsors in bringing major international sports events to the city.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Secretary Carrie Lam said many 'M' Mark events have become signature events, attracting tens of thousands of participants and spectators locally and from around the world, bringing tangible benefits to the community.
Mrs Lam added that she is pleased the scheme promotes not only elite, but community sports, fuelling participation in and appreciation of all kinds of sports.
She noted that the number of events under the scheme has grown from four in 2005 to 13 last year, adding that instilling sports culture in the community should be applauded.
Twelve organisations which successfully staged 'M' Mark events were nominated for six awards including those for most outstanding event, marketing, sponsor, community programme, entertainment and progress.
The 'M' Mark System has been in operation since 2004 to help local national sports associations organise major sports events.
So far, around $85 million has been approved for supporting 'M' Mark events.
