Centre for Health Protection Controller Dr Leung Ting-hung said today there was no need for schools to suspend classes despite the influenza outbreak.
Dr Leung told reporters the centre will look into the number of patients, the severity of the cases, the cause of sickness and whether the infection can be controlled, before advising that classes should be suspended.
He noted that in cases of the flu, patients generally recover after a few days’ rest, so it is usually not necessary to suspend classes.
Schools can contact the centre to request an investigation if there are more than three students showing communicable disease symptoms, Dr Leung added.
He also reported that from noon yesterday to noon today, there were seven new severe adult influenza cases, including six deaths, but no severe children’s cases.
