The Centre for Food Safety today banned the import of poultry meat and products, including poultry eggs, from Germany's Lower Saxony state.
The ban followed a notification by the World Organisation for Animal Health about an H5N8 outbreak in the state.
The centre has contacted German authorities and will closely monitor developments.
About 5,500 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 580,000 poultry eggs were imported from Germany in the first 10 months of this year.
