Child fund applications invited

November 24, 2014

The Social Welfare Department is inviting proposal submissions for the fifth batch of 20 Child Development Fund projects. The application deadline is January 5, 2015.

The projects will be rolled out in the second half of next year, providing personal development opportunities for more than 2,000 disadvantaged children.

So far, four batches of 61 Child Development Projects have helped nearly 7,000 children, with the overall aim of reducing intergenerational poverty.

The department will adopt a "one-plus-one approach" in granting the fifth batch of projects, under which each selected non-governmental organisation would be awarded two three-year projects in one go, allowing them to better plan their allocation of resources.

This approach will also allow mentors from the first projects to continue working on the second projects, helping to build a quality pool of experienced mentors.

Applicants must be charitable organisations exempt from tax under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, with a good track record of providing child and youth services in Hong Kong in the past five years. They are expected to start recruiting participants in April next year.
