The Social Welfare Department organised the 2014 Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony today to pay tribute to volunteers for their contributions and to promote volunteer services.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive's wife and Volunteer-in-Chief Regina Leung said the number of registered volunteers, hours of service to the community and participating companies and local organisations are all increasing.
She encouraged volunteers to continue to show care for people in need.
Awardee Kenny Chan has been providing sign language services for hearing-impaired people for more than two decades. This experience enriches his life and gives him a sense of fulfillment, he says. Awardee Betty Chung says she understands the importance of helping others after being a volunteer.
Director of Social Welfare Carol Yip hopes more people step forward to volunteer and show concern for others.
