3 new public estates' rent set

November 19, 2014

Rents for 9,722 flats at three new public rental housing estates to be completed between January and June will be set at the current best rent levels of their respective districts, the Housing Authority announced today.

The best monthly rent for the 3,459 flats in Shui Chuen O Estate, Sha Tin will be $68.4 per square metre, while that for the 1,358 flats in Cheung Lung Wai Estate, Sheung Shui will be $50.1 per sq m, and that for the 4,905 flats in Hung Fuk Estate, Yuen Long will be $47.1 per sq m.

There will be a total of 16 non-standard blocks in the three new housing estates.

Under the rent-fixing exercise, more than 79% of the flats rent for less than $2,000 per month. Rents are heavily subsidised, and are inclusive of rates, management fees and maintenance costs.

Those who cannot afford rent for new flats can request lower-rent refurbished flats, or may apply to the rent assistance scheme, the Housing Authority added.
