Centre for Health Protection staff conducted an Ebola drill in Shek Kip Mei today, while top health officials attended a disease preparedness exercise.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said the Government is committed to the prevention of the virus, despite the low risk of Ebola being imported to Hong Kong.
He said patients might have different local movements during the Ebola incubation period, which is why the Government must strengthen training to fine tune its response plan.
Twenty government bodies and organisations participated in today's table-top exercise, which involved key personnel discussing simulated scenarios.
The simulation centred on a person who returned to Hong Kong from an Ebola-affected country by plane and was later confirmed to be affected. The centre then traced people the patient had been in close contact with.
The scenario also involved a large number of suspected patients being sent to various hospitals.
Dr Ko visited the Public Health Laboratory Services Branch after the exercise to check its outbreak preparedness. The laboratory conducts sensitive tests on Ebola and can provide preliminary results within hours and confirmatory results after one day.
