Excessive pesticide found in lettuce sample

November 12, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety has found excessive pesticide residue in a Chinese lettuce sample to be imported from the Mainland.

The sample was found to contain Methomyl at a level of 0.33 ppm, 1.65 times the maximum residue limit.

The centre is liaising with the Mainland authority to follow up.

Based on the level of pesticide residue detected in the sample, it is unlikely to cause adverse health effects under normal consumption, the centre added.

It reminded people to rinse and soak vegetables before consumption, to reduce any pesticide residue on the surface.
