Third oil order to be issued

November 04, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety is considering issuing a third Food Safety Order to prohibit the import and supply of all edible fats and oils produced by Beei Hae Oil and Fats Co and Shyeh Chyng Enterprise in Taiwan, and all food products made with them.

Food traders will also be ordered to recall the affected products supplied by them.

According to information released by Taiwanese authorities, Beei Hae and Shyeh Chyng are believed to have adulterated edible oils manufactured or bought by them with oils not intended for human consumption and processed the adulterated products as edible lard for sale.

The centre found that some importers in Hong Kong imported fats and oils produced by the two companies.

Last month the centre marked and sealed 240 tonnes of edible fats and oils imported from Taiwan.
