The Centre for Food Safety has found excessive pesticide residues in a sample of Chinese lettuce to be imported from the Mainland.
It was found to contain methamidophos at a level of 0.11ppm.
According to the Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation, the maximum residue limits for methamidophos is 0.05 ppm.
The centre is liaising with the Mainland authority to follow up on the incident.
The pesticide residue level in the sample is unlikely to cause adverse health effects under normal consumption, the centre added.
It reminded people to prepare vegetables suitably before consumption, including rinsing and soaking them.
