A Food Safety Order was issued today banning Taiwanese companies Cheng I Food and Ting Hsin Oil from importing and supplying edible fats, oils and related food products to Hong Kong, after they were found to have been produced using substandard ingredients.
Retailers have also been ordered to recall the problematic products - which include margarine and shortening - within 14 days.
It is the second order to be issued following tainted lard manufactured by Taiwan's Chang Guann.
The Centre for Food Safety will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. It will also enhance surveillance of edible oil and relatively high-risk foods imported from other places.
