Rent subsidy re-launched

September 30, 2014

The Community Care Fund today announced arrangements for re-launching a subsidy programme for welfare recipients living in rented private housing.

The Subsidy for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance Recipients Living in Rented Private Housing programme was first launched in October 2011, and then in September 2013.

As at July 1, 2014, beneficiaries should be tenants in private flats receiving CSSA that are paying rent which exceeds the maximum rent allowance under the welfare scheme.

The Social Welfare Department will identify eligible households based on the rental information they have previously provided.

Each eligible one-person household will receive a one-off subsidy of $2,000, while a household consisting of two or more people will get $4,000.

The subsidy will be deposited directly into recipients' bank accounts from late November 2014.
