The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the death of a 57-year-old man infected with Streptococcus suis.
The patient, with underlying illness, fell ill on August 19 and went to Tseung Kwan O Hospital the next day and was admitted to the intensive care unit. He later died.
The clinical diagnosis was septic shock with multi-organ failure. He tested positive for Streptococcus suis.
He had no history of consumption or contact with raw or undercooked pork, and no recent travel history. His home contacts are asymptomatic.
The case has been referred to the Coroner's Court.
