Husi food banned

July 24, 2014

The Centre for Food Safety has suspended the import of products from Husi Food Company on the Mainland.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department’s Assistant Director Dr Lee Siu-yuen briefed the media on the decision today, saying the company’s food that is already in Hong Kong will be stored and banned from sale.

The centre launched an investigation after the company’s food processing plant in Shanghai was reportedly using rotten meat in its production.

It found McDonald's Hong Kong had imported chicken and pork from the Shanghai plant.

It had also inspected chain restaurants in Hong Kong and took more than 1,000 food samples for testing.

Dr Lee said the Government will monitor the case, liaise with the Mainland Authorities and take appropriate action.
