Guangdong Scheme arrangement to end

July 20, 2014

A special arrangement enabling seniors residing in Guangdong to receive Old Age Allowance without the need to return to Hong Kong each year will end on September 30, the Social Welfare Department says, adding eligible seniors should apply as soon as possible.

The special arrangement allows eligible seniors who have stayed in Guangdong continuously for one year immediately before the date of application to apply for the scheme.

Applicants must satisfy all requirements, including residing in Hong Kong continuously for one year immediately before the date of application, after the special arrangement expires.

Seniors will be entitled to a full-year allowance once they have resided in Guangdong for 60 days within a payment year. The current allowance is $1,180 per month.

The department has received 19,000 applications as at mid-July. More than 16,800 seniors are already receiving the allowance.
