New MERS cases reported

The Department of Health is monitoring nine newly reported Middle East Respiratory Syndrome cases in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

 

The World Health Organisation said the patients are a woman, 55, who frequently visits a camel farm; a man, 52, hospitalised for respiratory problems and renal failure; and, five men aged 49 to 74.

 

The other two patients are a man aged 67 who visited a camel farm; and, a man, 50, who was in contact with a camel confirmed to have the MERS Coronavirus infection.

 

To date, 836 laboratory confirmed MERS cases have been reported to the WHO globally, including at least 288 deaths.

 

There have been no confirmed MERS cases in Hong Kong.
