The monthly average ovitrap index for May rose to 12% from 1.8% in April, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department announced today.
The ovitrap indices reflect the prevalence of Aedes albopictus, a mosquito vector for Dengue fever transmission.
Of the 44 areas surveyed last month, nine reached or exceeded the 20% alert level, including Tseung Kwan O, Lam Tin and Sai Kung Town.
The monthly ovitrap index for port areas in May rose to 2.3% from 0.3% in April.
