Ovitrap index rises sharply

June 23, 2014

The monthly average ovitrap index for May rose to 12% from 1.8% in April, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department announced today.

The ovitrap indices reflect the prevalence of Aedes albopictus, a mosquito vector for Dengue fever transmission.

Of the 44 areas surveyed last month, nine reached or exceeded the 20% alert level, including Tseung Kwan O, Lam Tin and Sai Kung Town.

The monthly ovitrap index for port areas in May rose to 2.3% from 0.3% in April.

The ovitrap indices and information on anti-mosquito measures are available here.
