Imported H7N9 case probed

March 18, 2014

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an imported H7N9 case in Hong Kong affecting a five-month-old girl.

She lives in Foshan but had been in Shenzhen for the past week. She fell ill yesterday and came to Hong Kong with her parents last night.

She was taken to North District Hospital and was later transferred to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital,

She tested positive for H7N9 today and was sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for isolation. She is stable.

She had been taken to a wet market in Shenzhen by her grandparents four to five days ago where live poultry was sold. She had no direct contact with the poultry.

Her close contacts will be admitted for testing and observation, while other contacts including healthcare workers will also be traced for exposure assessment.

The centre will liaise with Mainland authorities to follow-up on the girl's Mainland contacts.

This is the seventh confirmed H7N9 case in Hong Kong.
