Gov't to fight formula smuggling

January 25, 2014

The Food & Health Bureau will work closely with other departments including the Hongkong Post to fight against formula smuggling activities, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says.

Speaking to the media after attending the Hong Kong Police College passing-out parade today, Dr Ko said the restriction applies to all means of transporting infant formula powder out of the city, in reference to a newspaper report about formula being sent by post. Government departments will jointly combat such illegal activity, he added.

When asked about influenza, Dr Ko said Hong Kong has entered the peak season for the illness, with H1N1 strains accounting for more than 40% of major circulating influenza viruses.

People should pay attention to personal hygiene, and those who are more vulnerable should consider receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine, he added.
