Stress test to assess formula supply

September 21, 2013
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said powdered formula demand  is expected to increase during the October 1 Golden Week, and the Government will run a stress test to see whether the supply chain can cope with the fluctuating demand.

Dr Ko told reporters today a stakeholders committee involving suppliers, retailers and consumer representatives was set up earlier to look into the matter and it has devised  a way to conduct a stress test during the coming period.

It will test suppliers' and retailers' preparation work and examine whether they can withstand a sudden increase in demand for powdered formula.

On the new North Lantau Hospital’s Accident & Emergency Department's operation, Dr Ko said it is regular practice for a Hong Kong healthcare delivery system to commission a new hospital in stages.

Initially, the hospital's A&E department will operate for eight hours daily. Depending on the increase in service demand, the hospital’s services will be gradually extended in stages, he added.
