Chinese medicine recalled

The Department of Health today instructed Chinese medicine manufacturer Hong Kong Medicine Manufactory to recall batch number PD12C3 of the Chung San Brand Bak Foong Pills (registration number HKP-12577) as it contains excessive lead.
The product is for relief of menstrual discomfort.
Prolonged exposure to excessive lead could cause anaemia and damage to human organs including joints, the brain and kidneys, the department said.
The company has set up an enquiry hotline - 2524 6188.
One batch of the same medicine was also recalled on August 1 for containing excessive lead.
