Chinese herbal medicine recalled

June 05, 2013
The Department of Health has ordered a recall of Chinese herbal medicine Rhizoma Atractylodis, which was found to be contaminated.

The department today instructed licensed wholesaler Peace & Hope Medicine Company Limited to recall the product, following an investigation of a poisoning case at the end of May.

The Government Laboratory today confirmed that samples from one batch of Rhizoma Atractylodis (batch no.: 20120920) and one unknown batch contained solanaceous alkaloids, which can cause blurred vision, dry mouth, dizziness, confusion, and even death in severe cases.

The department has instructed the wholesaler to recall all batches from the market as a precautionary measure.

Affected Chinese medicine practitioners and traders are listed here. Call 3427 3501 for enquiries.
