Cheung Chau invites bun climbers

May 09, 2013
Aspiring climbers who have always wanted to have a go at a bun tower will get their chance at the Climbing Carnival to be held Sunday, May 12 on Cheung Chau.

The 'Bun Tower Climbing Play-in' invites participants to climb the 14m-tall bun tower set up for the Bun Scrambling Competition the following weekend, which is part of the traditional Cheung Chau Jiao Festival.

From noon to 6pm, climbers who are at least one metre tall can submit on-site applications to climb the tower in Pak Tai Temple Playground.

The event is one of the highlights of the 2013 Bun Carnival, jointly organised by the Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department.

Activities including game stalls, handicrafts, variety shows, and displays of winning works from the student colouring and drawing competitions will also be featured, in addition to bun souvenirs and a 'Wishing Bun Tower'.

The China Hong Kong Mountaineering & Climbing Union will brief visitors on climbing skills, teaching technical and safety aspects of bun tower climbing.

Invitational relays will also be staged, with eight teams from local tertiary institutions, government departments, public utilities, and commercial and industrial organisations.
