Fever checks to be stepped up

April 18, 2013
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says temperature checks for incoming travellers will be stepped up to guard against the avian influenza A(H7N9) virus over the Labour Day holiday.

Speaking to the media today, Dr Ko said the Government has increased manpower from 80 to more than 100 officers using handheld temperature-checking devices at immigration checkpoints.

He said the tourism trade has helped to promote travel health and risk management on the Mainland, advising outbound travellers to pay attention to personal hygiene and not contact poultry.

Dr Ko said there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission, but the Government will stay vigilant in guarding against the virus.
