Girl treated for influenza A

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating an imported case of severe paediatric influenza A infection with encephalitis affecting a 19-month-old girl living in Shenzhen.
 
She fell ill on April 13 in Shenzhen and was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on April 16.
 
She is in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit in serious condition. She tested positive for seasonal influenza A(H1).
 
She had no contact with poultry or birds on the Mainland and did not travel to areas affected by avian influenza A(H7N9).
 
Her mother in Shenzhen came down with upper respiratory tract infection symptoms on April 13 and recovered. Her grandmother in Hong Kong developed a sore throat and has also recovered. Her father in Hong Kong is fine.
