Girl tests negative for coronavirus

March 24, 2013
A four-year-old girl from Qatar, who came down with a fever after arriving in Hong Kong, has tested negative for Novel Coronavirus.

The Centre for Health Protection was informed of the case today by Queen Mary Hospital.

She developed a fever and headache after arriving in Hong Kong on March 22, and was placed in an isolated ward in the hospital. Her condition is stable and her parents have no symptoms.

She tested negative for Novel Coronavirus associated with Severe Respiratory Disease but positive for adenovirus.

The centre will continue its surveillance mechanism with public and private hospitals, practicing doctors and the airport to watch for any suspected cases.

No human infection with the virus has been identified in Hong Kong so far.

Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man appealed to Hong Kong people to be vigilant against the virus by adopting good personal hygiene practices and a healthy lifestyle.
