Man with Listeria dies
January 28, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of Listeriosis involving a 56-year-old man.
The patient, with chronic illnesses, fell ill on January 22 and was admitted to Pok Oi Hospital on the same day.
His condition deteriorated upon admission and he died the next day.
He tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, which can multiply in low temperature refrigerated foods that are contaminated, but can be easily killed by normal cooking temperatures.
