Infant ill with NDM-1 infection

January 25, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection today confirmed a case of New Delhi metallo-beta-lactamase-1 (NDM-1) Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae, an antibiotic-resistant type of bacteria, in a four-month-old boy.

The boy was hospitalised for pneumonia in Pakistan, and was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on January 11. He was later transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital, and is now stable.

This is the 20th detected case of the disease in Hong Kong.
