Hospital Authority welcomes fund boost

January 16, 2013
Hospital Authority Chairman Anthony Wu has welcomed the Government's commitment to the gradual increase of funding to further enhance public healthcare services and manpower.

This was his response to Chief Executive CY Leung's maiden Policy Address which was delivered today.

Mr Wu welcomed the Government's support for the redevelopment of Kwai Chung Hospital, saying it will dovetail with plans to develop medical facilities in the Kai Tak Development Area.

The authority will expand capacity and enhance quality of service for patients with chronic illnesses, adding 150 acute beds and 130 convalescent beds.

To meet rising demand from the ageing population, the authority has mapped out its Strategic Service Framework for Elderly Patients to enhance the treatment, care and post-discharge support for seniors.

In improving the waiting time of specialist outpatient services, the authority is planning to further extend the cross-cluster referral arrangement to provide patients with more choices and reduce waiting time through a centrally co-ordinated mechanism.

The authority is also planning to post in phases on its website the waiting time of different specialist outpatient clinics.
