Seasonal flu cases expected to rise

January 13, 2013
Secretary for Food & Health Ko Wing-man said the number of cases of seasonal influenza is expected to increase, although the situation in Hong Kong is stable.

Speaking to the media today, Dr Ko said the Government is concerned about recent reports of the increase of cases of seasonal flu in the United States, as well as the increase in the mortality rate.

“I would like to appeal to Hong Kong citizens to adhere to good personal hygiene. If they have not received the influenza vaccination, please consider doing so, particularly for children, the elderly, as well as those with chronic diseases,” he said.

Talking about Mainland women coming to give birth in Hong Kong, Dr Ko said the Immigration Department has enhanced checking at boundary crossings. He urged people not to break the law by using fake passports or entering into bogus marriage.
