Probe launched into girl's death

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the death of a nine-year-old girl.
She fell ill on January 5 and was admitted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital on January 7. Her condition rapidly deteriorated after admission, and she died the same day.
The provisional clinical diagnosis was acute myocarditis.
She tested negative for influenza and enterovirus. Tests for other pathogens are in progress.
She had no recent travel history and her family contacts are asymptomatic.
The case has been referred to the Coroner.
