NGOs invited to provide elderly services

January 02, 2013
The Social Welfare Department is inviting eligible non-governmental organisations and social enterprises to apply to join the first phase of the Pilot Scheme on Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly as recognised service providers.

The scheme's first phase will be implemented in September and will run for two years. The Government will provide a subsidy in the form of a voucher at a single monthly value directly to eligible elderly people so they can choose the service providers, service types and packages which best suit their needs.

The department estimates the number of vouchers to be issued to needy elderly in the first phase will be 1,200 at most. In the pilot stage, the scheme will launch in Eastern, Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, Sha Tin, Tai Po, Tsuen Wan, and Tuen Mun Districts.

The Government will provide a one-off seed money grant to non-governmental organisations and social enterprises for the purchase of the vehicle, furniture and equipment they need.

A briefing session will be held in early January. Click here for details, or call 2892 5513.
