Senior dies of Legionnaires' disease

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of Legionnaires' disease in which a 74-year-old man died.
The patient, who had chronic illness, was admitted to the Caritas Medical Centre’s accident and emergency department on December 4. He was transferred to the intensive care unit, and died the next day.
He tested positive for the serogroup 1 Legionella pneumophilia antigen.
It is the 25th case reported to the centre this year. There were 17 in 2011 and 20 in 2010.
