Hairy crabs pass food safety tests
October 29, 2012
Test results from a seasonal food surveillance project on hairy crabs and female mud crabs were all satisfactory, the Centre for Food Safety announced today.
The tests included 102 samples recently collected at import, wholesale and retail levels. Chemical tests included veterinary drug residues, metallic contamination, synthetic hormones, colouring matters and oxalic acid, while microbiological tests covered parasites and pathogens.
The centre said despite the satisfactory results, people should be careful when purchasing and savouring this seasonal delicacy.
