Suspected coronavirus case investigated
October 07, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection is awaiting test results on a suspected case of Severe Respiratory Disease associated with Novel Coronavirus.
It involves a four-year-old boy from Saudi Arabia who is visiting Hong Kong with his father.
The boy fell ill today and went to Ruttonjee Hospital, and was transferred to Queen Mary Hospital for isolation. Test results are pending.
The boy and his father arrived in Hong Kong on October 3. His father had a fever two days ago but has recovered.
The centre is liaising with the Hospital Authority to monitor the situation. It advises travellers who fall sick within 10 days of visiting affected countries should put on a mask and seek medical advice immediately, as well as report their travel history to the doctor concerned.
