Warning issued on tainted sardines

May 24, 2012
The Centre for Food Safety today urged the public not to consume two kinds of Moroccan canned sardines, which might contain high levels of histamine.

Tous Les Jours PC Sardines Tomate has an expiry date of January 20, 2015, and a batch number of BJL 020F.

Tous Les Jours Sardines In Oil has an expiry date of January 19, 2017, and a batch number of BJL 019F.

French authorities found high histamine levels in the products.

The affected batches were imported by ParknShop in mid-April.

The centre said histamine is commonly found in fish of the Scombridae family as a result of bacterial spoilage and it cannot be broken down or removed by cooking.

People consuming fish containing high levels of histamine may suffer a burning sensation around the mouth, facial flushing, sweating, nausea and headache. The symptoms usually disappear in 12 hours.

Call ParknShop on 2606 8658 for enquiries.
